The one ad number that predicts everything else
Most people judge a Facebook Ads campaign by one thing: how many leads it produced. Fair enough, leads pay the bills. But there is an earlier number that tells you where things are heading before the leads do, and this month one of our estate planning clients showed exactly why it matters.
That number is click-through rate: the share of people who see the ad and actually click. This month theirs jumped 60%, from 0.91% to 1.46%. At the same time the cost per click fell to £1.37. In plain terms, the adverts got a lot better at making the right people stop and pay attention, and it cost less to do it.
The early-warning numbers
Why click-through rate tells you so much
A rising click-through rate means the advert is resonating. The message is landing, the audience is right, and people want to know more. That is the raw material every other result is made from. You cannot get enquiries from people who never clicked, so when the click-through rate climbs, you have widened the top of the funnel and given everything downstream more to work with.
It also flags problems early. A healthy click-through rate with weak results points you at the next step to fix, not the ad. A weak click-through rate tells you the ad itself is the problem. Reading it properly saves you from throwing money at the wrong fix.
Leads tell you what happened. Click-through rate tells you what is about to.
Read the leading signals, not just the lagging ones
This is the difference between managing a campaign and just reporting on it. Anyone can tell you last month’s lead count. A campaign that is actually being run watches the leading signals, click-through rate, cost per click, engagement, and acts on them while there is still time to shape the outcome.
For this client, those signals are pointing the right way. The adverts are pulling in more of the right attention, at a lower cost, than they were a month ago. That is the foundation everything else gets built on, and it is exactly what you want to see heading into the next month.
Watch the number that moves first, and you can steer instead of just react.
