Are You Making The Most of Facebook Live?

2016 became the year that live video streaming came to prominence.  Starting out on Periscope initially and then soon after Facebook moved into the live streaming arena.

periscope-logoIn the beginning Facebook live was only available to a small percentage of business pages to test the system out.  Now though, it is available to anyone with a personal account and a compatible phone.

Live streaming is going to be massive this year and you’re going to see me on there a lot more.  Here’s why.

Use Facebook Live To Connect With your Audience

Facebook live is a great way of allowing your customers to see who you really are and also to interact with you.  People can post questions to you live so that you can use this tool to build credibility and also to connect on a deeper level.

Your audience don’t just want to see postings, they want to be able to connect with you.  They want to find out about who you are as a person.  They want to know that if they entrust their money onto you that they will be able to trust you.

This is one of the opportunities that you have with Facebook live.

How To Use Facebook Live The Right Way

  1. Let you fans know that you are going to be online.  Send out a message telling people that you are going to be online on a certain day at a certain time.  Send this out to your Facebook page and also to your email list.  Encourage as many people as you can that you are going to be online and available.
  2. Tell people what you are going to be talking about.  Encourage people to come to you with any questions that they have about that topic.  Also encourage people to ask questions that they would like answering for future live videos.  This also gives you content that you can produce that will be useful.
  3. Can you have a regular time slot?  Going live at one time of the day might be more popular than at other times.  Can you then make that a regular slot so that people know when and where to find you?  What would that do for your ability to connect with your audience?
  4. Give lots of value.  Don’t use this medium as a selling board.  People don’t want to come to a live video to be sold to all of the time.  Give them something useful that they can implement or take further.

Marketing From The Buyer’s Viewpoint Instead Of Selling

I often hear from people that they can’t sell their product or service to their potential customers.  I often hear how Facebook and Google ads don’t work because people never buy from them.  But is this really true or are they selling instead of creating opportunities to buy?  Are they really understanding their potential clients mindset and are they able to plant thoughts of buying into their minds?

This is where I see a lot of people letting themselves down and also letting their potential clients down.  These potential clients need these products or services and if you aren’t giving them the opportunity to buy, you are letting them down.

Instead people go into the blame game and make it out to be everyone elses fault that they aren’t doing things the right way.  Instead of trying to go for the kill and create instant buyers you need to be nurturing buyers into a place where they want to buy from you without having buyers remorse afterwards.

So here are some things that you need to be aware of about your buyers in order to help them to buy from you.

Change Of Event Circumstances

In property I talk about this a lot.  I set up my leaflet dropping campaigns around this principle.  When people go through a major life changing event, they are often in a position where they need some help outside of the norm.  In property this is where you will find your motivated sellers.  Here are the 4 D’s that I work my leaflets around:

  1. Death
  2. Divorce
  3. Debt
  4. Departure

If someone is in one of these 4 stages, they are in need of a quick sale as there are legal issues that need to be cleared up as quickly as possible.  You can help them with being able to speed up this process and move on quickly.  Of course when dealing with someone who is in one of these stages it is very important that you act out of integrity and that you don’t take advantage of them.  Doing that is going to leave them with buyers remorse and they won’t be recommending you to other people they know.  They’ll be doing the opposite.  Make sure that you create a deal that gets you and them to both win.

Not Wanting To Be Embarrassed

car-outside-housePeople in these types of situations will most likely be feeling a dent in their pride.  They want a solution but not everyone wants other people to know what is happening because they feel embarrassed.  They don’t want to have a For Sale sign outside of their family home.  They want everything doing discretely.

This is where you can target a portion of your marketing.  You can provide a quick sale service for people without having to go through all of the embarrassment. This also means that you have to do certain things for these types of people.

  • Don’t park outside their house when you call round
  • Don’t put their cases studies on social media (or anywhere else!)
  • Again, be fair and create a win-win situation for them

Wanting To Be Taken Out Of Pain

Some people from the 4 D’s above are just wanting someone to come along and take them out of their pain as soon as possible.  All they want is for the deal to be done and to move on as quick as possible.  These people might be happier to be seen on social media than the last group.  After you have helped them, they will feel relieved as long as you have created that win-win situation.

You can set your marketing up for these people by talking about the type of pain that they are going through and how you can help them get out of pain.  Talk to them about the ease of the process and how you are going to help them along the way.  You may have to guide them along the journey and do a bit of hand holding to help them get to the end point.  Just remember that they are in a place of pain and they may not always react the way that they would when they are in a better place.

So I was thinking about the differences between those that get success, and those that don’t.

The main difference I realised was about how much the person changes and adapts to a new style of living that is most likely to end up with being successful.

10 Online Marketing Ideas to Promote Your Business on a Budget

Promoting a business is a never-ending challenge for small businesses. The Internet is constantly evolving. Just as you get one aspect of your marketing right, things change and you then have to adapt and change your strategies on a regular basis.

So, how can you get your name in front of potential customers when you’re just starting up and/ or when you’re on a shoestring budget?

Read on and find out how you can market your small business, attract more customers and build trust, even with a tight budget.

1. Fix 404 not found pages

If a visitor lands on your site for the first time and all they see is a 404 not found page, it doesn’t create a good first impression.

A 404 page is what users see when they try to reach a page on your site that isn’t found. This usually happens when they have clicked on a broken link, mistyped a URL or when the page has been moved or deleted.

Telling your first-time visitors that they can’t find the information they’re looking for after they’ve already made the decision to get on your site won’t help your business.

So make sure to constantly click on the links on your site to ensure they’re working properly and that they lead to the pages they’re supposed to.

2. Speed up your site

increase-site-speedThe next step is to speed up your site as this has a huge impact on conversions and Google rankings. In fact, it has been proven that decreasing the page loading time from eight to two seconds can increase sales by 74%.

Speeding up your site is vital because if a page takes too long to load, users will leave your site and, as a result, your bounce will significantly increase which will cause your rankings to decrease.

This will have an effect on your sales as lower rankings mean that potential customers will have a more difficult time finding your business in the search results.

3. Find content with potential and improve it

We all know that the majority of people searching the Internet don’t go past the first page of the search results. However, here is something you might NOT already know: you probably have lots of existing pages on your site with the potential to rank higher in the search results.

It makes sense to put a bit more effort into making those pages better and move them from page two or three, to page one of the search results.

How can you do this?

First you have to find those pages with potential. Google helps you to do this by providing a special free tool. Google Search Console is a free service offered by Google that helps you monitor and maintain your site’s presence in Google Search results.

You don’t have to sign up for Search Console for your site to be included in Google’s search results, but doing so can help you understand how Google views your site and optimise its performance in search results.

We recommend signing up for it. When you do, simply log into your Google Search Console account, go to Search Traffic -> Search Analytics and rank queries by Position. Anything that ranks between 10 and 20 is on the second page.

Use this information to determine which pages on your site have the potential to rank higher, and then make tweaks and improvements to those pages. Maybe you need to add more content to better explain what your product or service brings to the table, or maybe you’re missing images or meta descriptions.

4. Optimise Your Site for Local Search

Now, more than ever, search engine results are becoming increasingly personalised based on who is doing the searching and where they are located.

This is something you and your business needs to take full advantage of if you want to show up in the local search results when your potential customers are running a search on Google for local businesses.

The first and most important thing you can do is to set up ‘Google My Business’ properly and include all your business information such as phone number, physical address, website, opening hours and images.

The more information you provide on your Google My Business profile, the more likely it will be that someone interested in your offer comes across your name.

This information also needs to be present on your site and more importantly it needs to be accurate, up to date and consistent on all the sites where your business information is shared. This includes social media networks like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

5. Create Content for Every Stage of The Sales Funnel

What a lot of business owners forget is that not all the people who visit your site are ready to buy. Some might have just discovered your business and are curious to find out more about what you do. They might not even have a need for your product or service so they’ve obviously not looking to buy.

Others might be in the research phase and are looking into the various businesses that are offering what they might need to find out more. They’re not ready to buy either. There are also those who are ready to buy so they’re looking at their options and comparing prices and features.

All these people can become your customers, but you need to know how to nurture them over time, gain their trust and convince them that they have a need for your product or service.

How can you do that?

With great content. You need to make sure that no matter which steps of the funnel a potential customer is at, you’re there to help with information and advice.

Here’s how:
Awareness. At this stage you need to provide educational content that helps people solve a problem they’re struggling with. Think video tutorials, reports, checklists, podcasts, etc.

• Information. Now that they know they have a need and have started researching solutions, make it easier for them to compare. Create a survey to help them find the perfect product or service, or a table that compares various products.

• Evaluation. At this stage, people are looking at prices and considering whether the price is fair, and which business they should buy from. Make sure you provide the necessary information to position your product as an investment rather than a cost.

• Purchase: You’ve got this!

While this may sound like a lot of work (and it definitely is), marketing your business this way can increase your chances of converting visitors into customers, no matter which stage they’re at when they first land on your site.

6. Add Strong Calls to Action Everywhere

remind-clients-ctaEvery piece of marketing that you create – whether it’s a tweet, a blog post or an email newsletter – needs to include a strong call to action to draw in new customers.

It’s just not enough to add popular and relevant hashtags. And it’s not enough to add a pretty image to your newsletter. And it’s definitely not enough to write an informative blog post. You also need to clearly state how people can get in touch with you, read more of your content, work with you or buy from you. So you need a strong call to action.

For example, if you’re posting a tweet sharing an article from your blog, you’re going to add a call to action to entice people to click and go read the article. If you’re publishing an article on your blog, you should also link to other resources on your blog and also get people to sign up to get notified via email whenever you publish a new article.

Calls to action don’t have to be elaborate or ask much from your prospects. They can be as simple as asking for their opinion on a topic, suggesting that they use a specific hashtag when they mention your business, or asking them to sign up for your email updates.

7. Automate your email Follow Up

While social media can get more people talking and engaging with your brand, there’s still nothing as strong as email when it comes to driving sales.

There are lots of services that you can use to automate your emails to save some time. For example, if you’re a personal trainer you can set up automated follow up emails to go out to those who have finished their journey with you. In your email you could ask them to write a review that you can then share on your site, to recommend your services to their friends or to give them an incentive to ensure they’ll come back to you.

8. Repurpose Your Most Popular Content

One of the most difficult parts about creating high quality content on a regular basis is finding topics to write about to keep your audience interested. That takes a lot of time and resources. So, instead, why not try to breathe new life into your old articles and gain even more value from your most popular content?

Re-purposing your content can help you to extend the longevity of your content, it can give you a search engine optimisation boost and you can also make a bigger impact. And the best part? You can reach new groups of people that you might otherwise have missed.

Think about it. Some people like reading blog posts, others would rather digest that information in the form of infographics, videographics (or animated videos), podcasts, etc. So by re-purposing your old content and switching up the formats to present the content in new light, you can attract even more people.

Of course, you can also just give an article a quick refresh by adding and updating some new facts, statistics or images. That works too.

9. Offer Free Trials to New Customers

free-trial-lmA very effective way to acquire new customers is to offer them a free trial or some way to test your product or service. This not only helps to market your business and entice prospects to become customers, but is also a great way to gather feedback and make improvements where needed.

You can also ask for reviews and testimonials that you can then use on your site and social media channels to further market your business.

Offering prospects a free trial allows you to show them the value of what you have to offer. This is your chance to prove to them that your product or service is truly exemplary, and thus convert them into paying returning customers later.

10. Make use of Cross Promotions and Partnerships

You might not think so but cross promotions still work, no matter what business you’re in. For example, if you sell wedding dresses, go find event planners to partner with. If you’re a dog trainer, why not partner with veterinarians, dog grooming businesses, and even pet shops.

Don’t know how or where to find these local businesses? Search on Google, Yelp, LinkedIn and even Facebook.

You can promote each other or you can pay to get your business name in front of your partners’ customers.

What Burnout Really Is And How To Deal With It

Burnout has become a bit of a fashion statement like stress used to be used before and depression is used today.  These words get thrown around in order to get sympathy from people without any real understanding what the original term means.  Overstating what is happening with us has a real impact on us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  If you are going to overuse negatively impacting words then your language is going to become a detriment to your success and you need to keep it in check.

So first, let’s take a look at what burnout actually means rather than how it is used.

Burnout is the state reached when there is no more fuel left


Looking at what it means it is easy to see how people can overuse it and attach it to things which aren’t so detrimental.  Normally when people say it they mean any of the following:

  • Feeling tired
  • Not feeling motivated
  • Don’t know what to do next
  • Feeling like they’ve run out of options
  • Business is struggling
  • They’re struggling
  • Making unhealthy choices leading to tiredness
  • Not sleeping enough
  • And the list goes on

So if you or someone you know starts talking about burnout or how they are feeling burned out then cast your mind back to the list you’ve just read.  Could it be described better by one or several things you’ve read on the list?  Quite often I hear people classifying things the wrong way.  They don’t think about how it is impacting them and also the people around them.  Talking in a negative way regularly and being over the top with the level of negativity that you’re experiencing has an effect on the people that are around you most.

How To Deal With Burnout

add-fuel-to-avoid-burnoutLet’s take a look at the meaning of burnout again.  It is the end of a fuel supply.  There is simply no fuel left.  So what can be done about that?

Simply, the answer is to add more fuel.

That’s it.  No honestly it is as simple as that.

What is it that fuels you?  Why are you doing what you are doing?  Do you have bills to pay?

 

  • How much do you need to earn today to be able to pay those bills?
  • What can you do to earn the amount of money you need today?
  • Thinking about how you will feel knowing that you have covered your bills today, bring that feeling to making calls or whatever it is that you need to do.
  • Get that fuel inside of you before you pick up the phone

Once you’ve been able to pay your bills, you are into the zone of “What else do I want to bring money in for?”  Maybe you are wanting to

  • get a new car
  • buy some new clothes
  • redecorate a room in your house
  • pay for a wedding
  • buy a gift for someone you care about
  • have more money to give to a charity you like

Get into that zone next and bring that feeling to your work.  How much of an impact will that bring to what you need to do?

Once that fuel starts to disappear ask yourself

What is it that I want next?


By checking in with yourself like this you are giving yourself the fuel that you need to keep going.  The fuel source that you need can change many times throughout the day.  Oh and don’t be trying to put fuel in that you think you should want rather than what you actually do want.  That isn’t going to motivate you enough.  If what you really want is a gold Rolex covered in diamonds, don’t pretend that you are want to do something spiritual with your money.  Get the Rolex if that is what motivates you the most and once you have it the spiritual thing might be the next big motivator.  You have to do things in the right order and not what you want others to see you doing while pretending to have different urges and motivations.  People can see right through that anyway so just be honest with yourself.

So go ahead and get yourself fuelled up and then get the work done.
