Intensity – What Can Michael Jordan Teach Us About Business?

So today in this video I am going to be talking about what we can learn from Michael Jordan about business.  A lot of things that I learned about business I actually learned from playing basketball.

In life, many of the things that we do have transferable skills.  The difference is that most people don’t think like that and only look at things in one dimension.  When you start to look at the different things that are in your life and how parts of those can be mapped across to your personal and professional life, more opportunities for growth emerge.

What if you had a hobby, let’s say for instance basketball, and there was a strategy or a mindset that had to be adopted to reach a certain level in your ability to play the game.  Do you think that there’s a possibility that as you make that shift in how you play the game and the mindset attached with that shift that you could benefit from that in other areas of your life too?  What if that mindset shift could be applied to your business so you can close more sales?  What if your level of understanding between you and your partner improved as a result of that shift?

This is the kind of thing that this video will show you.  Take a look and see where you can apply this new learning.

So now that you have seen this video and seen how I have used what I’ve learned, what can you take from this?

Learning to take things from videos such as this is what is going to take you forwards.  I don’t mean by that , that you just watch it and then think

Oh that’s nice, I’ll remember that someday when I need it.

What I mean is that you learn one little nugget and then you go and implement it straight away.  You find an aspect of your personal or professional life that you can alter today by using what you have just learned.  Then you test it to see what happens.  You will invariably get feedback from that and you will know what worked and what didn’t work.

In the beginning you will get much more of what doesn’t work than what does work.  That is then your cue to alter things and find out how you an make it work for you.  Getting feedback like that isn’t a cue to give in like I see so many people do.  This attitude shift towards learning is what will take you and your business forwards.  It’s about taking what you can from what you get and altering it to fit you.

So what are you going to do today to start making use of this new knowledge.  Commit to just one thing if you have to but make sure that you do something.  If you’re not moving forwards, then you are going backwards.

Why do we we lie to ourselves?

I was thinking about a podcast that I did with Johnnie Cass (Podcast 8 if you want to listen to the whole range of content) and there was one section within that which I am going to go into more detail with you.  Johnnie is a great guy and he was one of the trainers when I did my NLP training with Chris Howard so mindset for us is a really important thing.

Johnnie was talking about a moment in his life when he left the UK and went back to Australia to live.  He wasn’t working at the time and he also wasn’t sure what he was going to do next.  He did one of the things at the time which most of us do with people that we know but we’re not really close to.  When they would ask him how things are going he would reply something like “Yeah things are going great right now.  I’m just working on some new things and seeing where it goes but everything’s good.”  The problem is that inside of himself he wasn’t thinking that and it’s something that we all do.  

We are told by so many of these top people like Tony Robbins for instance, that we have to feel on top of the world all of the time.  That we have to change our state when we aren’t feeling our best.  But is that really true?  If you are in a place where you feel a bit lost and you’re not sure where you’re going, do you really need to be changing that?

The Magic Of Feeling Crap

There are some days that you wake up in a morning and you don’t feel like you’re on fire and ready to hit everything full steam ahead.  According to the NLP world you have to do something to change that and make yourself feel great.  But what if what you’re feeling right now is actually the right way for you to be feeling in this moment?

lacking-clarity-in-directionWhat if by changing your state to ignore the feeling that is coming through you are actually taking a step or two backwards?

When you feel bad, it’s for a reason.  There’s some type of message coming through from either your body or your subconscious mind telling you that there’s something it’s either unsure about or isn’t right for you.  Sometimes you need to go through the bad feeling and see what it is telling you.  You might be trying to go down a path that isn’t right for you and the message is trying to stop you so that you can take the right path.  Maybe you haven’t got the right skill set yet and you need to learn some things first.   If you are feeling lost in your direction then it tends to come down to a few things

  • No clear goals in sight
  • Lack of direction
  • Lack of things to  do
  • Lack of motivation

Let’s say for example that your life is feeling upside down at the moment and you’re not feeling in control of what is happening to you.   You need to do listen to the message that is coming through telling you that there is an uncertainty and/or unhappiness that needs resolving.  Then you can do something that is unusual such as I recommended to a client of mine.

Her life had gone to the wall.  Her marriage had broken down, her husband took the kids and the house and she was left feeling alone and not knowing where to go.  So I told her to go out and do something different such as salsa dancing.  This then gave her the opportunity to embrace the uncertainty in her life by embracing it rather than trying to ignore it or fight against it.

When the snow comes, the buffalo stands and face the storm.  It never turns it’s back to it.

when-the-snow-comesThis is what you need to do too.  When those tough times come you need to listen to the messages and embrace the uncertainty.  That puts you in a point of control and shows your subconscious mind that even though there’s all of this stuff going on that you can still have fun and enjoy the ride.

So if you’re feeling stuck or lost at the moment, go out and create something that isn’t normal for you to be doing.  Give yourself that gift today.

It’s always fun being interviewed as you never know where it’s going to go. We specifically speak about the ability to get your message across about how people do it – even people who you don’t want being successful (Think Dictators!). That’s why it’s so important that you become good at this skill, along with being able to get that message out across the various forms of media.

Podcast 70 – Changes to Section 21 & Possession Procedures

Later this year, the House of Commons will receive a second reading of a bill which is designed to reduce homelessness.

It’s partly based around changing the way a Section 21 can be used for eviction, and specifically, the way in which your local council will see the Section 21, and deal with your tenant.

Right now, they tell the tenant to simply ‘ignore it’, which is causing a LOT of problems for tenants, and then landlords, and then the next tenant who follows.

Why You Need To Be Interested In Social Media For Your Business

Whether you like social media or not, your customers are on it.  Every day they will be logging into Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest plus many more.  When you turn the tv on it’s hashtag this and hashtag that.  Social media is everywhere and it is here to stay.  So if your business isn’t on social media and active on there, what are the chances of you being seen by the people you are wanting to reach?

You need to not only use social media but you should be using it to enhance your business.

Why Would You Use Social Media?

One of the first reasons that you would use social media for your business is to create a strong brand.  All of the big multinational companies are using social media to increase their brand awareness.

It allows your potential customers to get to know you and know who you are.  They want to know what you can do for them and also the types of things that you stand for.  Putting your digital footprint out into the world helps you to do that.

digital-footprintYou need to stay in people’s minds regularly which is why it is important to update regularly.  Sometimes you might slip out of someone’s eye line and a post from you on social media might just help to remind them that you are still around.

The second reason is that it helps you to find new prospects.  Social media is great for doing this.  This can be done both organically from your posts or from paid advertising.  I receive people to my podcast from both channels.

The next reason is that it helps you to build a relationship with your prospects.  Think about this, how many times have you come across a random website and then just bought something straight away without finding out who they are first?  You tend to look for reviews and and other information you can find to see if they are legitimate don’t you?

You tend to form an opinion first before you make a substantial purchase and this is where social media comes in.

Podcasts and email marketing are one way traffic that when done right can bring in prospects but social media allows a 2-way conversation to happen.  Taking part in this allows your prospects to get their questions answered much more directly and shortens the time frame that they need to build up that trust in you.

Networking Via Social Media

Social media also gives you the opportunity to network with other people in your industry or the industry that you are targeting.  Connecting with other people in your industry gives you the opportunity to help each other, start support-network-blalncedmarketing to each other’s lists and create joint ventures.  You can create an ongoing relationship of help and support with people using social media that you may never have met before.

Social media also helps you to keep an eye on your competition.  I’m not a big fan of keeping an eye on my competition because I’m more interested in what I’m doing and what I need to be doing.  It can be useful though to help you spot some of the current trends that you may be missing out on.  You might also see what they are doing and own that for yourself by adding extra value.

The more you are available on social media putting out great content the more that you are perceived as ‘the expert’.  It’s kind of like a pyramid.  The majority of people are scrabbling around at the bottom and all doing the same low-level things.  The more content you have out there and the more you are seen as being the go-to-person in your field the higher up that pyramid you will climb.

Creating A Great Social Media Strategy

  • Have some clear goals in mind and keep working towards them every day by using a plan.
  • Build your personality online.  There are lots of people at the top of the pyramid that don’t have a personality and that is where you can fill the gap.
  • Position your business online by creating your online avatar so that people recognise who you are and what you do.
  • Increase your online awareness to your prospects.  Create messages that speak directly to your customers and remove the wishy-washy content.
  • Open your business borders by putting your business in front of people who wouldn’t normally see you.  This will also show you the improvements you can make to what you already have.
  • Encourage repeat business by building a community around your brand.  This will help people to engage with you and also to promote you without even being asked to.  You can also keep your ongoing relationships working for you as you engage your customers regularly.
  • Receive more referrals by creating a referral network on your social media campaigns.  You are looking to make your social media expenditure of time and money into an asset that pays you money.

Is Networking A Waste Of Your Time?

I’ve recorded this video on networking due to an email that I received from someone about going to a networking event.  Now the idea of going to a networking event is a good idea.  The idea is that you get to meet lots of people and you get together and share business with each other and help each other to grow.  I get why that is appealing to people who are wanting to grow their business.

Here’s one issue for a start.

Do you really want to be getting up at 5am to attend a networking event full of the same people, week in, week out?  Getting up at that time and going there just to speak to 10 people?

What do you talk about when you are there?  Are you closing business or going through the same small talk that people do at networking events?

How long does it take you in total going to these events?  Not just the time that you spend there but the time it takes to travel there and travel back again.  Remember to calculate that in when you are working out what you are earning per hour from networking.  If you are earning anything from it of course!

If there was a way to speak to more than 10 people at once in a fraction of the time it’s worth considering as an alternative right?

The Alternative To Networking

So people buy from people right?  Well there is a different way that people can get to know, like and trust you that doesn’t involve you having to get out of bed early in the morning and standing around making small talk to sell to people that are also wanting to sell to you.

People want to get to know who you are and what you are all about.  They don’t want you to be stood there selling to them all of the time.  They want to get to know about who you are and the person that you are.  If they have a particular issue that they want to have solved at that moment in time then that is the moment they want to have that conversation.  The rest of the time they’re just working out how best to sell you on what they have to offer.

Living in Spain I can’t be jumping on a plane every week just to go and speak to 10 people about what the weather is like or something that I’ve seen on Facebook.  I can do that here in a local cafe.  So I had to do something different that would give me the greatest scope possible in the least amount of time.

That’s why I chose video.

Video allows you to reach more people without having to spend much time or money.  It also gives you the freedom that once you have recorded it and uploaded it, you’re done and you can get on with doing whatever you want to do.

That’s the beauty of video.

Podcast 66 – Is Networking A Waste Of Time

This Podcast is extracted from one of my videos and wanted to share the message.

I’ve been to networking events, and I’ve worked the rooms incredibly well.

And whilst that’s fine – there’s an awful lot of stuff to get done in order to ensure that Networking Events will be worth your time, compared to say, other types of making contact with people.

Because deep down, that’s really what networking boils down to isn’t it.

The problem, or mistake that I see a lot of people make are that they go to a networking event and then just speak to the same last 3 people they saw last time.

Everyone is equal in the eyes of a networker, whereas I would much prefer to speak to someone who has more experience than I do; but invariably, I’m always the one who happens to have the most experience (with 17 years of property investing under my belt).

So in order for me to make the most out of my valuable time, I decided to do something different.

I had no choice. I live in Spain, so for me to attend a networking event it means I actually have to fly there!

NOT the best use of my time.

I just wanted to share with you my review for the DJI Osmo 4K video camera.  This is a new piece of kit that I have picked up to start shooting my videos with.  To see the quality that this records at, even in just HD mode, is unbelievable.  The way that the colours pop and how smooth it is you won’t even believe as you watch this video.

What Is A “Time Thief” & What Should You Do About Them?

In this video I explain to you what a “time thief” is.  You might have come across people like this before or after watching the video you might realise that you’ve been one yourself.

Knowledge is power and when you realise what you are doing suddenly, you are then empowered to change your behaviours and actions in a way that helps you to move forwards.

Not everyone will come out and say this to you but I want you to be successful.  Becoming successful means being able to take the truth when you see it and then empower yourself by making the necessary changes.

After watching this you will have an example of what a “time thief” is and if you are one at the moment you will also know what you can do to empower yourself in a more powerful way.

You Have Already Chosen Your Results & You Can Change Them Again

I’ve just recently come back to Spain from the UK.  Each time I do this it’s a bit of a trek.  Buses, trains, planes and taxis.  It takes quite a bit to get there and get back.

This is my choice though.

I make that choice to go through all of that so I can live in Spain and have the lifestyle that I have out here.

You have your choices too.  The job that you have is a choice.  The travel to work is a choice.  You made those choices and you continue to make them.  You choose to get up in a morning, then you chose whether to have breakfast or not and how you are going to get to work etc.

sitting-in-trafficYou can make different choices if you want to.  That’s what I did.

I chose to stop sitting in queues of traffic each morning to go to a job that didn’t really fulfil me or make me truly happy.  I chose to put an end to that.

If you felt like you truly had a choice, what would you do tomorrow morning?  Would you get up and go to work because you love what you do or would you like to do something different?

If you love your job then that’s great.  You’ve found something that fulfils you so keep on doing it.  If you would rather make a different choice then you need to start making some different choices.

Instead of sitting watching tv, how about you start working on a business that is going to pay you enough over time so that you can leave that job that you don’t really like?  If you don’t have the skills yet, go and get those skills.  If you don’t have the confidence to do it on your own, go and get a coach to guide you and help you with your mindset.

It’s all about the choices you make from day to day and moment to moment.

I was in Leeds this weekend just gone and I happened to be channel hopping where I saw a lady complaining about the fact that she could only holiday in Wales and not Portugal.

 

In the next sentence she talked about a number of TV programmes and it got me thinking … What Are You Prepared To Give Up to get what you want out of life ?

 

To get the life that you truly dream of you are going to have to give up some things like sitting in front of the telly instead of working on achieving your dream.

 

If you want to lose weight, which method is going to be more effective?  Watching Coronation Street, Eastenders and Great British Bake Off or going out for a run?

 

The more that you are willing to sacrifice the more you can achieve.

Podcast 63 – The Cost Of Having Average Thoughts And Taking Average Action

The cost of doing things like you’ve always done them is what you’re about to miss out on in your own future.  For many that cost is acceptable.
Imagine having to go to work for the rest of your life, until you’re 65 (or beyond) ?
For some that’s an easy life, with little fears (other than losing your job, losing your pension, losing your health, getting ill and finally when it’s time to retire not being able to do so).
For others, (Like me – and by the fact you’re reading this, YOU) – this isn’t good enough.
We want more out of life. We don’t want to wait for it. Heck – why should we?  We make life work on our terms, not the ones that society has made for us (get up go to work, come home, eat tea, play with the kids for half an hour, collapse on the couch and watch crap on the telly and tomorrow … get to do it all over again).
But you need to raise your game – because everything that you’ve done so far has gotten you to here.

So When It Comes To Selling A Home: The Best Property Advice

The average property seller does not know much about Property. For helpful advice on selling your home, read the advice in the following article.

When renovating a home to sell, repaint all of the molding a bright vintage white. This will draw the eye to the interesting design of the molding, making the rooms feel bigger and brighter. Complex designs in the kitchen and dining room increase the beauty of the room while simple designs make the bathroom and bedrooms feel comfortable.

When you’re ready to sell your house, pick an agent who gives you a lower estimate.

It may feel like a blow to the gut, but that’s probably closer to a realistic sale price. Of course, you can still start high, but this way you’ll at least know what to expect!

Sometimes when you have multiple buyers bidding on your property, you can make more money on your home. You will want to get a realistic idea of current selling prices for similar homes in your area. Then set a competitive price to draw a lot of interested buyers. If they then get into a bidding war, you can actually surpass your original asking price.

When selling your home in the fall, make sure to keep up with the maintenance on your home that may send up red flags on a potential buyer. Keep the gutters clean of leaves so the buyer knows that you have taken the time over the years to do the required upkeep on a home.

A good way for new Property agents to drum up business is by mailing out marketing plans to expired listings.

These are people whose property didn’t sell and for one reason or another didn’t re-sign up with their previous Property agent. So they’re the ones most likely in the market for someone new to work with. With a unique marketing plan package and by targeting selected expired listings agents can increase their listings by fifteen or twenty percent.

If you are working with a home seller personally, do not let him or her in on any information about your move. This information could be used against you in negotiations that are held in the future. If they know about how anxious you are to get into the home, they are less likely to come down on the asking price.

Pay attention to “selling season” when trying to sell your home.

Most families want to move during the summer, to avoid interrupting their child’s school year, and so are looking to buy in the spring. Having your home ready to sell by about the end of February maximizes the chances of selling to this group.

When selling, keep your house staged in a ready state to attract buyers. People want to be able to imagine themselves in a home when they are considering buying. A warm home still filled with pictures, and furnishings will allow the prospective buyer a chance to see their items in place of yours. A cold, empty sterile property is not an inviting place to live.

To find an agent to help you sell your home you should take a careful look at the four or five who you think would be right to help you. Take some time to see who actively they are marketing their properties currently listed. They probably will work as hard for you.

If you are in the Property business, it is important that you have your own website.

If you do not advertise on the internet, then you are missing out on a wide range of customers who look on the internet first, to find the properties that they are interested in.

It is possible that you may need to negotiate the price. This is especially true if your home is priced high in an area with a depressed Property market. If you need to get your home sold quickly, you may need to be flexible to the buyers requests, including a fair offer. If you are in no hurry for your home to be sold, then don’t be afraid to hold out for the best possible offer.

Interior paint jobs preceding a sale should not necessarily reflect your own personality. Rather, select neutral and appealing shades such as white, cream, or light beige. Few things can enhance the appearance of a home like a colorful, fresh coat or two of paint.

Houses should be put on the market in late spring or summer to take advantage of the highest Property market volume.

The market is dictated largely by the school year. Home buyers do not want to move their families in the middle of a school term. Thus more houses change hands in the spring and summer than in other seasons.

Your roof must be in good condition when you want to sell your house. It is likely that purchasers will steer clear of your house if the roof looks shabby. If you don’t fix it, a buyer may request an allowance for them to have it repaired when they purchase the home.

Having a poker face while trying to sell or buy a house is something to think about.

Don’t overtly show your excitement or enthusiasm. It only makes it easier for people to take advantage of you. Keep the poker face on and you’ll probably get the best price possible.

When you are preparing your house to show to buyers, do not forget to neutralize or remove odors in the house. Odors from smoke, the litter box or other pet areas, are unpleasant to the buyers and will discourage them from thinking that they could possible live in the house. Be sure to use appropriate methods to keep odors under control.

Regardless if you’re selling out of want or need, the tips you just read in this article can help you move your property in a timely fashion without having to suffer any big losses. The market can be tricky, but this does not mean that a skilled, informed person cannot sell quickly and easily and get top dollar.

Why the BBC doesn’t know shit and their insipid reporting confuses people (Controversial)

In one of my latest podcasts (https://www.daniellatto.co.uk/podcastdownload ), I have a minor rant about how I once saw the BBC release inflation figures (down from 3% to 2%) and then went to the supermarket to ask shoppers if they felt the prices dropping.
A drop of inflation from 3% to 2% means that prices STILL ROSE but slower than the 3% expected.
Asking shoppers if they then could feel the price drops is a ridiculous bit of reporting by a ridiculous organisation called the BBC who is intent on communicating the wrong information.
(By the way, 42,000 poor people have to pay for these ludicrous £6 million wages that Jonathan Ross was on when he worked there).
These are yet again the lies told by mainstream media that are pulling the wool over people eyes.
I won’t even mention (again) how someone did an impersonation of ROLF HARRIS (that convicted paedophile) on childrens BBC 2 months ago.
I know you know how much I hate mass media – but it’s because it’s bullshit masquerading as the truth. And people watch it. Because it’s on the telly.

In this UK Property Podcast I talk about how to keep your focus, and how you can use 90 day goals to sharpen that focus, begin to make better choices and start heading towards your goals much quicker than before.

We also cover the 8 factors you need to consistently lose weight (which also include 6 factors you need to be wealthy!)

The things I hear constantly is “I haven’t got enough time”, or “I haven’t got enough money” and so I talk about to take control of both of these.

Taking control of both the amount of time that you’re spending (or wasting) and taking control over your costs and your income are vital in order to be wealthy.

In my experience, I find these two areas to be the most challenging (Time & Money) and so it’s important to spend a little bit of each and every day in working through those both in terms of how you feel about them mentally and emotionally (Negative emotions about your lack of time and lack of money can change your results for the worse).

Imagine if you had total control over both the amount of time you had available to do the things you wanted (Like family, relationships and personal time), along with allocating time to the things you need to do to get wealthy.  Wouldn’t that make a bit g difference in your life ?

Then imagine using that time in order to start not only saving money by cutting costs and taking control of your finances, but by actually having a plan to increase the amount of income you received on a month by month basis, increasing each month until you were taken out of needing to rely on a job.

It’s definitely possible  I know this because that’s exactly what I did, and it’s my intention to share this type of information on these UK Property Podcasts.
