There’s a problem with our house. It has a single point of failure that’s pretty big!

When it rains a lot, the basement floods somewhat.

But it's ok because I fixed it with part filled bin bags of water set in a row to create a damn like structure !

Oh yes - it took a bit of trial and error, but now if the water comes in then at least all the gym equipment will be fine.

It doesn't look pretty of course, but it sure fixed that problem with the house.

Only ...

It hasn't has it.

It's a temporary stop gap to a bigger problem of the drains not being able to handle a lot of water.

A more permanent solution needs to be found.

But I'll tell you what else I learnt from this experience....

Is just how many people are using temporary stop gaps in their businesses too ...

- that don't look pretty 
- that also only solve the problem temporarily 
- and take up a LOT of time as well as trial and error to find out how to do it

Instead of just getting a professional in, to fix the problem once and for all in a more permanent setting (I'm talking about the water of course)

That way, we needn't wake up n the middle of the night and worry about whether it's worked or not.

Instead we check our emails and see lead generation coming through because our marketing works when we're not - I know, I'm mixing my metaphors too much here.

Luckily we weren't flooded in any way, but I think it was because the rain wasn't as heavy through the night

So that's us nice and safe until next time then.

When we'll have to jury rig a system to not get flooded again and hope for the best.

(We rent our villa here in Spain and have done for the last 4 years - but it's not like we can start digging up the drains to make the fix more permanent)

But if you own your business, jury rigging it so it fixes a short term problem all the time is exactly why you have no time available in your business.

Let's take creating all those images you need and scheduling them on social media.

It's simple enough, it won't look as good though, and all that time it takes when actually, you should be paying someone else to do them on a regular basis for you.

And then all that video editing, and turning into a podcast too - all that time spent when you should be spent on other parts of your business.

If you're literally jury rigging your business to do this stuff all the time (and wasting your own precious time doing it) then it's time to step your business up from a hobby into a proper bona fide business.

Don’t bother getting a Business Coach, just [read a book, read a forum, etc] – Great Advice?

I can't tell you how many times I've seen this 'advice' from people online.

Invariably, the person giving the advice is at the same level as everyone else.

i.e. working who knows how many hours a week wondering why they're not moving forward and getting the results that others seem to be getting.

I've literally just seen one person in a property group talk about how he doesn't pay for any training at all.

Then in the very next post complained about how the property the bought was a stinker!

Naturally, when I challenged him about it, he blocked me.

Because that's just what people do.

Nobody likes to be challenged on their core beliefs.

And when they do, the may lash out in some way as a defense mechanism as the way in which they see the world is not actually how the world is.

And it's very challenging to them.

Heck, it's challenging to me too when my belief systems are challenged.

I don't know anyone who likes their belief systems tested.

But what if that belief system is just plain wrong?

(But how can it be if it's a 'belief' system I hear you ask!)

Could it possibly be that having a Business Coach is the RIGHT thing to do ?

I can't think of a single situation where I got myself a Business Coach and things got worse over time - not one.

It may have taken a while to get results in some circumstances, and in fact some of the results are still coming through from advice I received 10 years ago !

But it's still coming through.

But, maybe there is a whole group of people that getting a coach of some kind has ruined negatively affected their lives over a period of time.

Maybe it's happening on a regular basis - yep - maybe it actually is me that's wrong on this idea of getting a Business Coach.

Could be.

And certainly there are a lot of CRAP business coaches who have never ran a business before (My old lettings agency drove 35,000 website visitors a month for example, along with employing staff and doubled revenues for 4 years straight - we have a fair old idea on what we're doing)

But for most people it's the question of COST that's the issue, not the question of whether to have a Business Coach or not (or a property coach for that matter, or a health coach)

In all the times I've personally had a Business Coach, I've ALWAYS had a return on investment at some point or another.

It may not be instant.

Sometimes, it's over a couple of years AFTER I finished with the Business Coach.

Because it's about sowing the seeds of success, not watering the fruit at the last minute hoping for growth.

So if the only thing that's stopping you getting a Business Coach is the price, then that's EXACTLY the reason why you need a Business Coach.

But if you're taking your advice from people online, and you have NO IDEA what successes they have had, then you're taking a big risk.

What you need to do is find somebody who has done what you want to get done too, and then spend the money to invest in yourself and get the help you need to accelerate your chances of success.

But I don’t really know where this idea of just hanging out in forums to get your financial/business/property advice comes from.

I know there are some very clever people in forums who have had great success, but to be frank here, they’re few and far between.

Successful people don’t hang out in forums to give every newbie coming along all of their information.

And how can it possibly be tailored to their exact need in a paragraph or two ?

Well, it can't can it?

As someone who has had some good success, I can honestly tell you I don’t hang out in forums or a lot of Facebook groups.

Because every time you offer advice in the group, someone without the 21 years experience in property comes in and says you’re wrong – it doesn’t even matter what the topic is, or if you’re the ‘go to’ person in that topic – you’ll still be wrong according to others without the knowledge or experience.

After a while, we tend to get fed up of that, so we just don’t bother any more.

Successful people don’t hang out in groups offering advice to newbies – it’s just not done.

I’ve seen it in a couple of online forums, self described guru’s giving advice, and then saying things like “Well I've been in this business 20 years and not retired, so I can’t see how they are”.

(This particular one was having a go at a property coaching client of mine who is immensely successful and who is still in his 30's)

I’ve literally seen that in the forum!!

Lol. It would be funny if they didn’t have people hanging onto every word of their ‘advice’.

I guess it's easier to knock down other people than to build them up and support them.

So look, if you want to accelerate your results, there’s really only way of doing it.

PAY FOR ADVICE.

Rule of Acquisition clearly states “Freed advice is seldom cheap”.

And it’s true. When you’ve been in the trenches and grow your property portfolio and a successful business over a period of 10 to 20 years – that experience doesn’t come from books, or reading forum posts.

It comes from spending your own cash and finding out for yourself what works and what doesn’t.

As I go through life, I find the more I invest in myself, the more I get back in the long run.

I wish somebody had told me that 20 years ago, and more importantly, I wish I had listened.

how To Stand Out On Social Media (The Easy Way)

I still to this day find it amazing that people know they are working too hard, they know they are literally doing everything in their business, and yet they still refuse to outsource it.

- they won't do it as well as I can
- I'm a perfectionist, it has to be perfect

I don’t want to make you feel old or anything BUT ….

The film, Highlander is 32 years old this year!!

I remember watching that back when I was just 14 years old and loved that film.

I'd seen it so many times I knew it word for word.

Looking back of course now, over the last 32 years, I probably would have been better off creating content for my business (Yes, at 14 I had a business selling floppy disks)

There was no internet back then, but we had fax machines - and I just sent out pricelists - if only I knew back then what I know now about writing engaging copy !

Really, I should have been building personal brand.

Just like many business owners should be doing today.

I should have been sharing stories and showing people how to use their computers whilst getting paid for it along with those 5 and a quarter inch floppy disks (remember those!)

But no, Connor Mcleod running round chopping heads off immortals was what got my attention 🙁



It was so easy to be distracted back then, and it's even easier now with all the social media accounts we need to check in on, and Netflix and so on.

But look, we're either creating content, or we're watching/reading other peoples content.

And if you're not creating content, and driving people back to your website so you can target them later on via Facebook Ads, then you're missing a trick.

But I know for a fact that most businesses aren't creating content, they're not creating images, they're not driving traffic back to their website to try and get email opt ins to communicate with potential customers.

They're being distracted by cute cats, or Brexit, or something else of no value. (Or getting into arguments with strangers who won't change their point of view)

Instead, what you should be doing is

- finding a way to get their website optimised and found on google,

- setting up their facebook ads re-targetting to hit those who come onto the website,

- creating images to remind people they exist,

- going live on Facebook and then

- uploading that to YouTube and then

- pulling out the audio to create podcasts.

But none of that gets done (mostly because people don't know how to do it and they haven't got time to do it)

And they're missing a trick.

My quarter of a million YouTube views for example.

My hundreds of thousands of podcast downloads

My daily private messages I get from people asking for help

My content that gets sent out, and re-purposed later on that drives more people back to my website and into a conversation (Message me - see for yourself!)

Working too much Hustle and Grind, instead of Strategy & Planning ?

It's so easy to buy into this 'Hustle' version of life that Gary Vee pushes so much.

I mean, I love Gary Vee, who doesn't, but seriously, you're working all these hours on the HUSTLE, you're forgetting to work on the STRATEGY.

I mean, you want an example right ?

Check out this video ... 

Gary Vee would be proud of this mans hustle.

Only ... he's working so hard, he fails to see that the PATH TO SUCCESS is right next to him, just a few feet away.

But here he is hustling hard on getting up that escalator.

And how true is this in real life ?

I've lost count of the number of people I've spoken with who come to me saying 'I'm working all hours and I'm not getting anywhere'.

To me, the answer if obvious, you're working on the wrong bloody thing.

The term a 'busy fool' describes a person who is busy for the sake of being busy, rather than being busy doing the things that get results.

The weirdest part is, when I know I can help them dramatically improve their results, but it's going to cost them some money to work with me and they say 'nah man, i'm good' and off they go working on the wrong damn escalator once more.

That's what coaching is, it's to help you spot the things you're doing wrong that could be quickly improved upon.

And in my last 10 years as a Business Coach, I've seen so many people who have quickly changed their results by just making a few simple changes.

Sometimes, it's as easy as 'do this, not that' - and BOOM - the results fly in.

Sometimes, it takes a little bit more work.

Heck, sometimes, it's a LOT more work and we even have to build the escalator that will carry them to the top, but it's all doable, once you've identified where you need to go, what resources you need to help and who can help get you there.

But most people don't, instead preferring to 'HUSTLE' because Gary Vee told them it would be good for them. As though they're being 'honourable' in their suffering.

Gary also talks about PATIENCE, which is also great, but only if you're working on the right thing.

If you're driving the wrong way down the M1 from Leeds to London (and are instead going North!) - PATIENCE, isn't going to help you much, and nor is 'HUSTLE'.

At some point, you need to realise that what you've been working on isn't getting you where you want to be, turn the car around and head back in the RIGHT direction with all the focus, determination and patience that will get you there.

It's almost like Strategy And Planning takes a back seat in favour of this HUSTLE in this modern age.

When people build a house, they don't pick up the bricks and start laying them one by one.

They have a plan.

Drawn up by an Architect, and signed of by the local planning authority, and then during the build you have building control come in and check it meets their regulations.

Not in your business though - off people go with an idea, full of hope and hustle, only to find 6 months (or even worse, 6 years!) that actually, they probably did need to plan a strategy of what to work on first to get maximum results.

What It Takes To Be Successful

I like to think I've been on both sides of the coin on this one.

I remember working 2 jobs (40 hours a week at a kitchen company selling upgrades, and 20 hours working the William Hill Call Centre in Leeds taking bets over the phone) - for a total of 60 hours per week.

I don't even know if thats allowed anymore with the EU working time directive (although I guess that will disapear once #Brexit happens, and we can all look forward to people working 80 hour weeks once again when we do, right?)

What I remember from those days is being trapped in this merry go round of not having enough money and having to work 2 jobs, versus spending the money I got on personal development and books.

I'm guessing at some point that paid off, because right now, I'm writing this from my Villa in the Mediterranean on a weekday morning when everyone else is at work.

But I also remember, people having a go at me because all I did was read, and spend money on personal development materials.

Strangely, they're either not around me any more (still working in that same warehouse they were 20 years ago - yup, true story), or they're just not in my network of people I speak with anymore.

I remember how difficult it was to finally escape that old environment.

And the financial changes only started when I actually started to learn sales - as that was the only job where you didn't need qualifications (no degree, no HND, just 5 GCSE's!) and where your results spoke for themselves.

I took to that like a duck to water.

The persistence in getting the deal done was probably the biggest factor to my success in those days.

I remember when I got the job at Dell on £100k a year, some my 'peers' were like 'how did he get that job', while only a few supported me.

Some even laughed.

But I literally went from £15k to £100k in the space of just 4 years.

And most of that income went into buying properties below market value and doing them up.

Thats where it all started, money wise.

But really, it all started in my mind when I was working 2 jobs and doing the 60 hour weeks, and reading everything I could on personal development, making money, investing etc

So if you're working those 60 hour weeks right now, find that time to read more, to buy more books, to listen to audio such as podcasts and books.

Join a group of people who are there to help you, where you can get support and motivation and inspiration as well as learning HOW TO DO THINGS.

Your friends and network might think you're mad, of course.

Even those who are on the journey next to you may think you are over doing it.

Be obsessive.

I can't tell you the number of times people have said to me 'all you ever think about is money'.

And they were right.

Not making it.

Not dreaming how to spend it.

But actually learning how to earn it while I'm asleep, at the gym or watching Netflix.

Fast forward 20 years, and here we are.

Villa. Med. Freedom.

It's taken hard work, sacrifice, a loss of certain friends.

It's meant tearing down the old me, and making a person my kids would be proud of, instead of this working class lad with dreams and no heart.

It's meant fighting through my fears, of which there were many, and breaking down what people said either to me, or behind my back into the lies that they were.

Heck, their lack of support became my driving force.

My detractors ended up being my biggest motivators (thanks).

"I'm going to show them" is what I repeatedly told myself.

It wasn't easy.

It shouldn't be easy - because then everyone would be doing it.

But most don't, because it's too hard, or because their friend told them not to, or 'why bother, you should be happy with what you have'.

Screw that.

But if you do want it, then persistence, obsession, sheer determination and HUGE FOCUS on the right goal, put in place with the right mindset and lots and lots of action even if you fail - that's what will get you there.

People Who Invest Based On ASSUMPTIONS – Don’t Let This Be You !

So a few years ago, we'd sourced a property in Leeds, and it needed some work doing to it.

So not only did we buy it 25% below market value, we also ADDED value through one of our light refurbishments.

Nothing too heavy, just a new kitchen, new bathroom, carpets, painting - just a light refurb really.

We put it back on the market and we had a buyer lined up very quickly through an Estate Agency (Like within a week or 2)

When it came to the sale particulars, obviously it had our names on them.

And when the buyer saw it, they pulled out. You see, I knew these guys from years previous. And they knew me. They knew I knew what I was doing. And they couldn't understand why we were selling up.

I quote their exact words here 'If he's selling it, then it can't be a great deal for us' (the Estate Agent told us)

In other words, they ASSUMED that we had bought for cash flow and were selling it because it didn't "work".

When in actual fact, we were selling it because we had bought it, done it up and put it back on the market to realise both our deposit and our profits and take our money back out so we could go on to the next one.

The profits from this one went towards a deposit on another property - and the original deposit, well that was used to fund another "buy, do up and sell" type deal.

But it just goes to show how when people don't know what they're doing, they make important life changing, profit making decisions based on nothing more than ASSUMPTIONS.

This was a great property too for rentals, within a school catchment area, a nice suburb of Leeds (Yep, they do exist!!) - and it was perfect for the next tenant to come in.

If only the buyers had asked why we were selling it, we would have told them that it was because we bought it below market value, and had done the propery up to a high standard ready for rental, and wanted our money back out so we could go onto the next refurb.

But they didn't. They went on to buy some piece of shit property in a rough part of Leeds instead.


Anyway, the property went back on the market and was sold the following week.

We pulled out our original deposit, and with the profits, bought 2 more to go, do up and sell on. That was one of the ways in which I quickly grew the multi million pound property portfolio that I own today.

The key was learning how to source the deals properly.

With that one skill, I was able to take advantage of the property market and out compete other investors who were wanting to do the same thing, source great deals.

Learning how to source is a life changing process.

It comes in two parts. The first part is where you learn how to do it.

The second part is ACTUALLY doing it.

This is what I know about being the best version of you

It's not 20lbs overweight

It's not struggling for money all the time

It's not being fearful about the future.

Being the best version of you requires dedication, belief and actions repeated daily.

Take my gym for example - I got to the stage in my weight where I was unhappy with it. So now I'm dealing with it.

It's hard fucking work. Every single day.

Chocolate, donuts, pizza, bread; all gone 🙁

Sitting around watching Netflix (mostly gone!)

And in it's place is salmon and eggs for breakfast (every breakfast) after my 30 minute cardio session.

Then it's into doing some work on my business.

Then it's into workout 2 at 12.30 pm, 4 days on and then a day of rest lifting heavy weights.

Does it hurt ? Yep.

Do I want to take the day off ? Yep

Do I really not want to go to the bloody gym ? Of course I don't.

Then, after that - I go and shoot basketball for an hour.

Yep - 3 workouts a day - the whole lot takes 3 hours.

4 days on, 1 day off.

That's dedication. That's routine. But is it getting results? Of course - how can it NOT ?

Routine - day in, day out.

In my business, writing long form copy such as this - do I want to do it ? Not always.

Do I get results from it ? Yep.

My social media engagement increases, I get more friend requests and people follow me without requesting friendship on Facebook.

Does that content then go out to my email list? Yep.

And does that get results? What do you think !

Day in, day out.

That's what gets the results.

[Open Rant About Personal Growth]

So as many of you may know, I've decided to step up my game in September and the rest of 2018 and start to increase my help to those people who are struggling with their businesses and need extra help.

It's led to some very interesting conversations with some very clever but stressed out, anxious business owners, who in reality can solve their problems quickly.

The problem they had was that they were so stuck within the confines of their business, they simply couldn't see the wood for the trees.

The business overwhelmed their senses to the point where they couldn't not only see the solution, they actually couldn't actually diagnose the problem !

One of my first jobs in speaking with people is to accurately diagnose what the business issue.

Once this is done, with the right guidance from me, steering them into their pain point, the path is fair lit up.

The path might not be easy, as the issue does need fixing, but it is often much easier to see and with some extra support, some training and some coaching, they can easily overcome it in 12 weeks or less.

It's been good for me too, as the continual reminder that we're all learning still, constantly, that we're all adapting our processes as we continue forward have been powerful, and a realisation that it's ok to ask for help.

Even people who have 'successful' businesses have stepped up, and it's heartwarming to know that those who want it badly enough, are prepared to lift their own mask and ask for help.

There's totally nothing wrong about asking for help. I've done it this week with my coaches too in all manner of things.

In fact, one of the hardest parts of my own growth that I've struggled with is 'actually asking for help'.

And when I do, people are there to help. It might not be easy, but it's definitely humbling, and always ends up with me striving forward even more powerfully than before.

What Does Freedom Look Like In Your Business ?

For me it's about having the ability to choose what I want to do today - Today I WANT to work !

But I don't have to if I don't want to.

Because all my social media posts have gone out.

Because all my emails are scheduled.

Even though the beach is 100 metres away !

But actually, I DECIDE to work, because there are a lot of people out there who need some help with their business.

There are people up late at night not knowing which way to turn in their business, and they're stressed out.

There are people who are desperately trying to get their idea off the ground but not sure how.

There are people throwing a tonne of money at Facebook Ads and wondering why it's not converting.

There are people wondering how they can tell their partner that, actually, they need to work this weekend instead of family time 

All these people, are the reason why I choose to work today.

Because if I can help them in their business, I get to save a marriage, I get to save bailiffs at the door, I get to save those who are working 60 hour weeks from an illness in a few years time.


None of this is measurable by the way !

That's the crazy thing about it.

I've had clients come to me, and they haven't 'liked' a single post I've done, and not on my mailing list, but they're watching from 'afar' and they came to me because they needed help.

So don't give up - keep posting, keep your content flowing, even if it feels like no-one is watching.

Lets talk about opinions shall we ?

I'm always intrigued by what people think and why people think it.

And when someone has a strongly voiced opinion, I'm always interested in who this person is and what their motivations are.

Let's take breastfeeding in public - just earlier today I saw a post and someguy screaming his way through Facebook saying how wrong it was breastfeeding in public.

Now obviously, I think breastfeeding in public is perfectly fine, if you have a problem with it, you probably need to get some help, or your cultural or religious views need updating to 2018.

But think about it for a second - what's his upbringing (andhis culture), what's his background, why does he hold such strong opinions that he thinks he can try and stop people breastfeeding in public?

Why does it even bother only him so much, but not everyone else in the UK (or America for that fact)

Here in Spain of course, it's the most natural thing ever.

Or what about Colin Kaepernick and that Nike Advert.

How many upset people have you seen about this !

Literally the funniest thing on the internet a few days ago was grown men taking a pair of Nike socks and cutting them up.

Now I don't know what this 2 Dollar pair of socks did to make him so upset, but they were going to get cut up whether they liked it or not. And then posted on social media, so everyone knew where 'Cleetus' (probably not his real name) stood on this matter of opinion.

I do notice that I didn't see anyone setting fire to the 1989 original Air Jordan sneakers though.

Although hilariously I did see one guy setting fire to his sneakers WHILE HE WAS WEARING THEM !

Now - it's not for me to say one way or the other whats right and whats wrong - although I'm going to ... because that's how opinions work isn't it.

Did you see what I did there?

Go back and read that last little paragraph again. I know you're now waiting for my opinion on this, but I'm not going to give it just yet because I want you to understand what I'm trying to convey here. These are more than just words my friends 😉

Opinions are just opinions.

They're not fact.

They're not the law.

Nobody has to abide by an opinion.

When someone tells you 'well, thats not going to work' - it's just their opinion.

It's not fact. It's not the law. You don't have to abide by their opinion and go and do something else instead.

You can tell them to 'piss off'.

Because you also have an opinion, and you could say 'well I think you're full of shit' and off you go, doing your own amazing thing.

And just because MORE people hold a certain opinion than you, it doesn't mean they're right too.

I've been up in front of many people with a different opinion to mine, and they were ALL wrong. Yep.

You know how I know?

Because 20 years on, I'm sat writing this at my Villa near the beach, and they're still stuck in an office somewhere.

But why do people have such different opinions?

Like the guy burning his sneakers while still wearing them... I have to wonder about how intelligent he is.

Not that it really matters - because we all have a different level of intelligence, and to some extent, it's given to us at birth (although life long learning can help massively of course)

But it's not just education levels. I know very bright people, who are still rather poor.

Because they have an opinion that people with money aren't nice people (Heck, just look at how the press treats wealthy people)

So what other factors are there ?

The guy burning sneakers probably though it would be cool and go viral, so he's actually taking an action that's based on what HE THINKS people on social media want and will get more more views and more likes, and maybe even viral.

And it did go viral, although probably not for the reasons he thought it would.

So if someone says something you disagree with, that's ok.

There are so many reasons why people think differently

- education

- cultural

- religious beliefs

- non religious beliefs (yep, some Atheists are idiots too)

- memories

- experiences

- fitting in with their 'tribe' (a collection of group opinions that all match each others core beliefs)

But here's the DIFFERENTIATOR I want to you to think about, there are INTERNAL opinions and EXTERNAL opinions.

I've made these phrases up so let me explain them.

An EXTERNAL opinion is stuff like 'breastfeeding', or 'gun control'. They're stuff that really, you're not going to be able to change.

One man shouting at a woman for breastfeeding isn't going to stop breastfeeding in general for example.

My opinion on a Facebook post about the lack of gun control isn't going to change the laws on gun control in America.

An INTERNAL OPINION however is one where the man shouting, is shouting at YOU.

And it affects you doing what you wanted to do. So a man shouting at my wife for breastfeeding in public for example, that shouldn't affect my wifes ability to breastfeed.

A person having a go at me - shouldn't change my behaviours.

There are many bullies out there of course. There are always going to be people who are physically bigger, stronger and more intimidating that will force you into a situation where you will have to capitulate.

That's ok - you're being coerced into taking a different action because of the fear of violence or intimidation - that's how bullies work.

But after you've moved away from that bully with that opinion and the fear of violence, what are you going to do - cover up and never breastfeed again ?

Of course not.

Because people like him never win. They're destined for an unhappy life - how can a person go around trying to put the world to his way, when the world is far bigger than they are ?

And so it goes with you.

Affect the things you can affect.

You have no control over the other things.

The things you can affect are

- energy to do something

- time spent doing something

- time spent learning (reading, listening, watching

- allocating time from one area of your life to another

- learning while cooking (I listened to a webinar while cooking last night on my wireless headphones)

- your immediate surroundings (ie the people you hang out with, if they're wrong, change them)

- your ability to reach out and communicate with MORE people (long form text like this, or Facebook LIVE, etc)

- there are more of course, but I havent got all day to think about them !

But opinions are like assholes. Every one has got them. And usually it's full of shit.

From people who have no idea about your situation.

- No idea what you're doing.

- No idea why you're doing it.

- No idea what the goal is you're after.

I literally got fed up of having to explain myself as to why I was doing a particular thing a particular way, so now I no longer bother.

So these days, I just go and do it.

And if it works people are like 'wow, that's amazing'

And if it doesn't work, I hide it the best I can (Obviously!!)

Because behind every successful person, there is a huge swathe of failure sitting underneath.

It's like one of those landfill sites with grass and trees on top with fluffy bunny rabbits running round.

To everyone else it looks amazing.

But you know what it was built from.

So the next time someone voices their opinion, ask yourself, is this INTERNAL or EXTERNAL and does it really affect me.

Then make a decision on which way to go.

And go that way and make it happen.

Because when you're 110 year of age, lying on your death bed, you ain't going to be worried about what 'Cleetus' is thinking.

Ever feel like you should be further on than you are right now?

I think for entrepreneurs it's quite a natural state to wonder if you should be further on by now than you actually are.

We're always striving for more, to better ourselves, to have the best mindset, the best physique, our ego comes from our numbers (sales, profits, heck even hours worked!)

But the real question should be, are you being fair on yourself?

Because it's easy - we're our own worst critic - I mean - could you be further on than you are ?

Well of course you could, so could anyone, but then you could also be further back than you are right now, and that's something to be grateful for.

So then the next question should be, have you given yourself the right tools to be as far ahead as you could have been?

- Have you got the right marketing tools?

- Have you got the right mindset tools?

- Is your future lifestyle goal clearly defined?

And I don't just mean written down and stuffed in the top drawer (but for some even that would be a start) .

I mean, have you test driven the Ferrari, walked around the multi million dollar house, hired a speedboat for a day to see if it really is as cool as it looks on Instagram?

You know, we actually hired a speedboat just last month, and I have to say, it really is a lot of fun and something you should also do.

I remember the last time I did that was when I got engaged to my wife, where we pulled up onto a beach in Ibiza - totally cool and I got lots of brownie points for that proposal (although I had visions of dropping the ring in the sea, which thankfully never happend!)

Can I be really, really honest - hiring the boat didn't even cost that much in the whole scheme of things.

It was an investment into my lifestyle (and she said YES, so that was a bonus too!)

But that investment into something I will treasure for ever, something that changed the course of my life, was certainly worth it.

And when I look back at that time now, I can't even remember the cost. But the benefits last forever.

Anyway - back to 'are you far enough forward for this point in your life' - what other resources do you need to take massive steps forward in your business.

- A Mindset Coach.
- A Marketing Coach
- A Business Strategist

People you can bounce ideas off, or people who have not only done it themselves, but who have helped others improve their lives too.

People who can show you how to implement what you need to move you closer to those lifestyle goals you have.

In essence then, for your business to help you to achieve those lifestyle goals, you're going to need

1. A mindset coach
2. a Sales & Marketing funnel that closes sales
3. to automate the business so it works without you having to be there all the time
4. a profit maximiser to remove all those costs you don't need, and find revenue you're leaving on the table.

All of the above is easy when you know how, much harder when you don't.

In fact, not having this can be very costly - and in more ways than one.

A lot of the time, the people I work closely with are bringing in the revenues, although maybe not as much profit as they would like (heck, we all want more profit right?)

But they're spending SO MUCH TIME in their business, the true cost of not achieving what they want isn't even financial (although that's part of it)

The BIGGEST LOSS is time away from family, time away doing what you love, time away from maintaining a healthy balance of health and work (because right now it's all work and no play, right?)


The bigger loss is a failed relationship, or a relationship that's purely functional in nature - no romance, little or no sex, exhaustion at the end of the day and everyday feels like Groundhog Day.

The bigger loss is missing your kids growing up, getting home when it's too late to play with the kids, or attend sports day because you're too busy - or missing those first steps of your little one.

What we find is that when people actually set aside the time, invest in themselves, the return they get back over the long term is huge, both financially, mentally and emotionally and also in terms of their relationships with their partners and kids.

In fact it's life changing.

And it's a small price to pay in order to be set on that path you achieving those lifestyle goals even quicker.

The question is, when are you going to make the decision to move forward and stop living in regret.

Listen, it's going to happen at some time in the future, so you may as well make it happen now.

Its It Really Quality Over Quantity When It Comes To Your Digital Content ?

I hear it all the time, - QUALITY OVER QUANTITY.


But is it really true ?

When you're looking to build your brand, OF COURSE there has to be SOME quality in there.

But let's just Lets take a look at some numbers of online influencers and see what they do

Let's take the top 3 in the U.S. who I would arguably say are

1. Gary Vaynerchuck
2. Grant Cardone
3. Tai Lopez

I chose the U.S. because there seems to be nobody in the UK who has the same level of content, followers and fame.


So as you can see in the image, I've looked at each account and seen how many tweets, videos, followers and the like.


There are some crazy numbers out there.

And the worse / best bit about it is - I think I do a lot of videos !

I've only done 431 - compare that with Grant Cardone nearly 4,000 videos !

I think I've tweeted a lot with 8509 tweets - but look at Gary V at 168,000 tweets !!

So what about your numbers ?

How many tweets
How many videos
How many instagram posts
How many Youtube Subscribers

Of course quality has to be there - if you're uploading shaky footage with terrible sound - nobody is going to watch it.

But a LOT of content is filmed from their mobile devices.

Sure, Gary V has a cameraman following him around, and he runs a whole team of people to create content.

These folks are playing at the very top.

But what about you?

How much content are you putting out on a daily basis ?

trist me on this - when I personally increase the amount of content I put out, not only does the number of website visitors increase, the number of applications I get from people who want to work with me to help in them in their business also increases.

Client – “I’m not spending any more money. I’ve spent money on a website, and it’s rubbish. So not spending any more on marketing”

Hmmmm ... wondering how long they'll stay in business for.

Best to give up your phones, your marketing, and your advertising too.

Best give up your team, your staff, and the people who are relying on you.

Best to give up your social media, your business books you buy and your mindset investments.

Bets give up on your dreams, and get a job in the 'real world'.

Business is hard. It takes risks. It takes investment. It takes guts. It takes Optimism.

It takes sleepless night. It takes battling through that 'inner voice'.

I'm not saying you should just be optimistic and that 'everything will be alright' - because it might not be alright.

But doing your very best, and increasing the PROBABILITY that your business will work, will FAR OUTWEIGH not doing anything to put yourself into a position that will give you a chance at success because of the FEAR that holds you back.

Those that give up too soon.

That don't invest in their marketing; are the ones that will ultimately fail.

It's sad, but when I see people still in EXACTLY the same position they were in 2 years ago, because they were too scared to pull the trigger is frightening.

What the hell are they waiting for? 

Make It Happen.

Go and do it. Make it work one way or another, kicking or screaming. Life or death.

Because we only get one life. And we don't want to get to the end of it thinking 'damn, I WISH I had done that'

You gotta give yourself the best probability that you will get what you want.

That takes hard work and taking calculated risks.

In other words, put yourself into a situation where you give yourself the best CHANCE for success, one that will increase the probabilities of WINNING.

Have I taken risks and had stuff not work ?

Of course I have. And I learned a lot along the way. I've failed forwards for the last 20 years.

But at least I found out for myself, rather than listening to someone else.

There has been lots of times I've been told I couldn't do something, and done it anyway.

"That won't work" they say.

And what they're saying is 'THEY couldn't do it'.

So I go and do it anyway, because I want to find out if it was just them that couldn't do it, or whether it can be done, it just needed me to do it.

And you know what?

95% of the time, I got it done.

And so can you.

You reach a point where you go 'I'm going to make this happen, no matter what' - and it's in that moment that your success begins.

It can be scary going it alone, we all know how that feels. And it's a lot less scary when you're with someone who has been down that path before.

Is your marketing so complicated to set up you end up not bothering ?

I see it a lot when I'm speaking with business owners.

They know they SHOULD be doing something, but the whole Facebook thing looks complicated as heck, and they've already spent money on Facebook Ads and got nothing in return.

Now, you could be a physio, a personal trainer, a Chiropractor, a restaurant - basically anybody who has the skills and extra capacity to take on more clients.

Crazy right ?

So if you have capacity in your business, and are ready to take on more clients throughout the next 12 weeks, then you should make contact.

But only do it if you have capacity for more clients, as were only looking for those who can handle a surge in business.

Look, if you haven't got a client acquisition system in place, then you're spending an unusually high amount of time trying to market your business instead of servicing your clients.

Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Could ‘REACH’ be your problem with your business right now ?

In the olden days (like 10 years ago!) most businesses used the Yellow Pages (remember them!) or Newspaper advertising to make people aware of their business.

How much has changed in such a short timescale.

But not that much has changed in the minds of business owners. You would have thought that with the advent of social media, they would literally be all over it.

Today you have 3 channels to promote your business through, and it still amazes me how little people actually do.

The 3 channels are of course, video, audio and text.

Every single time you create a video and upload it to YouTube, and then distribute it on social media, you're literally getting an advertisement for you, or business or your product or service FOR FREE.

Yet how many people actually do it ?

And when they do actually do it they do it so poorly nobody really pays attention. Shaky video folks .. stop it! (P.S. I'm guilty of this too but where possible use a gimbal to steady the footage)

Or even worse, they spend a lot of money on one great video thinking 'this is it' only for that one video to get 17 views and that's it. No likes, no comments.

Now 17 views as such isn't the problem. The problem is the single video. Or the single article. Or the single podcast (or in most business owners experience, zero videos, zero audio and zero articles).

Why would you NOT want to create more mini adverts for your business?

Heck, videos I did 5 years ago, that are still relevant to the market place, get re-used and posted on social media - and now, almost every video I do is one that I know in 5 years will still be relevant as it talks about STRATEGY and NOT tactics.

If you think tactics are the way you're going to win this battle, then you'll be wrong for a long time.

If you think you just need to know Instagram's magic algorithm, then you'll be struggling for quite some time too.

What you need to know is that video, articles and audio are here to stay and work out how to put those into your marketing mix of your business over the next 5 years.

This will extend your reach (ie the more people who know about you the easier it gets to close some business)

But most people don't plan for 5 years. Heck, most dont even plan for the next 30 days, they just show up and do whats in front of them that day, or the latest greatest idea that they try to rush and implement, instead of having a solid long term STRATEGY.

That's also why when people choose to work with me, we spend a LOT of time working on their strategy (This is usually done at my Villa in Spain, you should allocate some time to come along, its pretty awesome!).

This avoids people spending months worth of time working on something only to find out it didn't fit into their overall plan.

It's better to have a plan up front and execute the plan as well as you can.


In my business, we do whats important, what fits into our 5 year strategy and we perform according to that. This shaves years of trial and error off our goals, and it keeps us aligned to getting what we actually want.

The first step usually however with a 5 year plan is to increase your reach. This can take time to do. We didn't get to 13,000 Twitter followers over night, and the 13,000 LinkedIn connections took some time too.

But now we have built those connections, we can utilise them with the right content that's targeted to our core market (business owners who want more money but who also want more time freedom in their business - people just like you more than likely)

The tactics that we use for that will change over time, but the fact that we need to continually extend our reach doesn't change.

In some mediums we've been really good, and in others we've been terrible (Instagram for example we have, at the time of writing 1098 followers only, and it's something we're beginning to work on as Instagram becomes more popular)

How do you extend your reach ?

Create great content first - it's a bit of a catch 22 - the answer however is to create a LOT of good quality content that goes out, that reaches your existing audience who like and share it and also eventually gets out to a new audience too - that's how you will grow your reach.

You just need to bite the bullet and start creating content ONCE you have worked out the strategy you need.

Are you working to exhaustion most weeks?

I see so many business owners working late into the night and early in the morning (as though it's some badge of honour) and although you may get some quick wins doing that, it's simply not sustainable for the longer term.

Not only are these longer days more tiring, they may make you irritable, put weight on, or you end up being so busy in your business that you forget to see whats important over whats urgent.

I mean, heck, it's all urgent right? Especially for those clients of yours with the loudest voices who demand you do their stuff first.

The longer term result, as well as burn out, is a business that NEEDS you to keep operating at that level in order for it to work. And THAT definitely isn't sustainable. You're not got a business, you've got yourself a prison sentence within those four walls of that business.

It feels like you're trapped in 'Entrepreneur Prison', and I certainly know how that feels, as I've been there myself in the distant past. Now, you still see me doing the fun things during the day when everyone else is busy working - and it's because we know how to automate our business accordingly.

Gary Vee of course loves the idea of 'Hustle', but you don't see him staying up late at night editing his own videos (I don't do that either), he has people to do the work for him (as do I).

And although Gary may work 16 hour days or so, it's really top level meetings, not doing the 'actual' work himself.

All said and done however, there are some things you can implement almost immediately that can have an immediate effect on your business.

Just imagine having a lie in for an extra hour, or having a 'date night' with your partner, or just NOT having to do the work because someone with a lot more experience is doing it for you (Like your Client Acquisition for example).

The changes that start quickly build up into a feeling of success as you begin to take control of your business.

You would no longer need to feel 'on demand' for your business. Your business should serve YOU, not the other way around - right now too many people are servants to their businesses demands and thats not why you started it in the first place Im guessing.

So what can you do ?

Firstly, decide at least one night per week to take off - and plan something nicer than just working instead. This could be going to the gym, or organising a date night with your partner once a week.

It could be meeting up with friends for a nice meal or going bowling or the cinema, anything to break up the work, work, work cycle and get your mind onto something else. (What's funny about this is that when you actually take a break, you get some cool, fresh ideas for your business that you wouldn't have had otherwise)


Then you need to take control over all of the tasks that you have lined up to do. This is a big one, as most people have no idea what the amount of work there is that needs doing. There is no list, other than some fragmented 'idea' about what needs doing. When it's like this it's virtually impossible to work out whats important versus whats urgent on that to do list. Then work out how long each task is going to take, and then populate your calendar with those tasks.

The number of clients I've had who have made this one simple change in their 'to do' list is huge - and it's fundamentally changed their lives. They're no longer putting out random fires in their business, but instead actually planning out their business for the next month or so with a clear vision of what tasks need to get done and what they will achieve from doing so.

Finally you need a method that will automate the Client Getting Process, so that you're not having to constantly put the work in to find more clients, but have an automated system that reaches out to your target market with a message that gets results. Is SHELTER A Scam?

I saw This On Facebook - and it explains Why Shelter Might Just Be A Scam - what do you think?

Shelter have supported various initiatives to change the PRS so I wondered if I could do the same for them.

The accounts to March 2018 aren’t online yet, so I looked at the previous year’s figures: https://england.shelter.org.uk/…/OBR-1521_Annual_Report_DIG…

The total remuneration received by the six directors during the year was £763,446 !

There were 1,273 members of staff; some of whom were part-timers; the full-time equivalent was 1,158.

Total STAFF COSTS - £39 MILLION of which £32.6 million was for salaries making the average salary £28,000.

Shelter got donations and legacies of £33.2 MILLION but it cost £11.0 million to obtain them.

It got £17.9 million for housing advice and support services (mostly from government departments and local authorities, and £2.9 million from the Big Lottery) but spent £37.0 million providing them.

It got £1.1 million for training and publications which cost the same amount. It also £302k, from investments mainly, with a bit from office rental.

Up to there they were £3.3 million in surplus. 
They got a bit from shops, see below, but blew £5.9 million on research, policy and campaigning.

The total income was £60.9m,
Ttotal expenditure was £62.9m, result = MISERY!!

Investment income was £972k, so the overall deficit was £1.0m,
i.e. they were exactly a million pounds worse off at the end of the year than they had been at the start !!!!!!!

The accounts show that Shelter shops sold goods for a total of £8.5 million. But the staff working in them cost £3.4 million, and “other shop costs” were £4.5 million.

The net contribution was 630k, or 7.43% of sales – seven pence halfpenny in the pound from selling things that were given to them for nothing.

People donating good quality things, and the people who buy them, are mostly just paying for the premises and the 177 staff in them.

Some may think it’s a fruitless exercise or worse, and would prefer to donate to – and buy from – charities that have unpaid staff, or which actually provide beds for homeless people, but I couldn’t possibly comment.

I can however give you, Shelter, the sort of advice that young disrupters have felt free to give to private landlords over the last few years.:

You are not entrepreneurs. You have just inserted yourself between the public and the shops that they want. Your shops have the extremely high gearing of costs to turnover of 92.57%. If 8% of donors or buyers of goods stopped donating or buying them, the shops would make a loss.

(I wonder if the 2 million private landlords and their 11 million tenants stopped patronizing your shops whether they would exceed the 8% of your customer/donor base.)

It’s not a real business, it’s not sustainable, and it’s time you made way for first-time shopkeepers. When you decide to phase out the shops, please do so in a gradual and proportionate way. George Osborne reckons 25% a year is gradual and proportionate.

Now some advice about the £5.9 million you spent on research, policy and campaigning.. You would have been better off you stopped this and minded your own business, and so would tenants. The more you campaign, the more people are made homeless.

I’ll Be Honest, It’s Been A While Coming…

And after the next 3 clients (or after the first week of September), I will never offer the 2 day Strategy & Implementation Intensive Session at it's current price, ever again.

Since February this year, I've been continually improving what I do and how I do it, and at the same time bringing on more of our exact type of clients that I want to bring on.

From the 1:1 coaching, to the Mindset Transformation, to the training and implementation sessions here in Spain.

It's getting seriously effective when people implement what they learn, and they leave with a whole new set of goals and possibilities.

So about 2 weeks ago I decided to cut working with clients who are the very startup level of their business and made the decision to up the pricing for those people with existing businesses, and existing revenues who can more afford not only the price, but actually implement what I teach at my 2 day event. It's so valuable, for example the time management system alone has released many clients from the shackles of their business and provided more time freedom.

The results have been very, very good, and so I realised that I can MORE help people who already have an existing business and ready for the next stage. I can help them make a BIGGER impact.

This allows me to free up some bandwith for those clients who can really smash it out of the ballpark with their business in their next stage of growth whilst at the same time being able to automate and systemise their business and take more time off.

It also allows me to go a little bigger, build out some new things to allow those clients to outsource some of the work they'll need to do in order to grow their own business.

Sometimes you just have to let go of something that helps those at the start of their journey to help even more people and get much bigger results and to make something GREAT in their business such as designing their entire sales funnel process and implementing it for them, along with a massive amount of paid traffic. This is going to be seriously awesome for those that sign up and are prepared to take that growth head on.

Anyway, it's time to level up again ... but this time I can't do it without raising the price.

September has always been an important month for business owners as the kids go back to school and also as we head towards the final quarter of the year, a final push to make 2018 amazing is on the cards for many forward thinking business owners.
